1959 | Born in Hong Kong |
1987 | Moved to the Netherlands |
My work is about a moment in time, memories from the past and the present living experiences. Different fragments and elements are often composed into one work. While poets use words to express their feelings, I use my colours and forms.
I explore the potential of combining a two dimensional painting on a three dimensional form. The form and painting are equally important in my work. By using different sizes of porcelain slab, I let the form arise in an unexpected way. Guided by my intuition, I create a space within space. Through drawing and painting, my emotions start to flow and find a place for their identities. Each time when the viewers turn my work around, they will find a new composition, a new surprise. It is like a panorama being fold up in a circle, always coming back to the beginning and the journey starts again.
To cross the boundary between ceramic and painting is a challenge which I find important in my work. I am inspired by literature, poetry, architecture and also by my own living experiences, but above all, it is the excitement of the exploration and to encounter the unexpected that inspire me the most.
